DIY Earth Day Suncatchers

Earth Day is tomorrow, so in celebration of loving our mother Earth I found a really cool craft here on Pinterest that you make World Shaped Suncatchers out of tissue paper and contact paper! My son and I had so much fun doing this and its really simple

What You’ll Need:

• 1 sheet blue or green construction paper
• Clear contact paper
• Blue and green tissue paper
• Hole punch
• String or raffia
• Large container lid

Instructions:
Use the bottom of a large container lid as a template for your circle.  Trace a large circle onto your construction paper. Cut out the circle from the construction paper and then cut out an inner circle so there is about a ½ inch ring remaining. Using the same circle template, trace and then cut 2 circles from the clear contact paper. Peel the paper off of the first circle of contact paper and place on a table, sticky side up. Carefully place the construction paper ring on top. Cut blue and green tissue paper into small squares and then arrange on the sticky contact paper to create a “globe” design. Once you are happy with your design, remove the paper from the second piece of contact paper and place it, sticky side down, on top of the tissue paper.  Trim excess contact paper. Punch a hole in the top of the globe and tie a loop with string so the globe can hang.

This one was seriously fun, we are going to do it again this summer. I had seen the idea on Pinterest many times and I was on the hunt for Spring break activities to keep my kid busy. Very easy to do and little supplies needed.

 

What you'll need:

Tub of  "Pony" beads, you want transparent beads

Bag of suction cups

yarn or ribbon

drill

metal baking pans, we used cupcake pans

 

How too:
 

line the baking trays with beads, making different patterns with the colors.
Bake the beads, I seen people do this in their home in the over, no thanks. Guys it STINKS like melting plastic. You don't want this smell in your home. I baked ours out on a the grill and it worked perfectly. You want the temperature of the grill to reach 400, any lower than that the beads won't melt right. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until melted.  Take them out with a mitten and place them someplace SAFE too cool. I let ours cool outside right on the grill. Once done fully cooling, take the tin indoors and pop them out of the trays. After they are popped out, you'll need to drill holes at the tops so you can string ribbon through them to hang. I used a Dremel tool and a small bit. Once the holes are drilled cut some yard up, we used some Ombre super neon colored yarn from Wal-mart. Then tie them to the suction cub bars and hang them on the windows! All done! Ours all went in my sons room, they look super awesome in there and adds a pop of color.
